Enhancing the Skin for Health & Beauty
(Saturday & Sunday)
Treating the skin for health and beauty has a long history in Chinese Medicine, with references in the first herbal materia medicas as well as the Nei Jing. The illustrious Sun Si Miao (581-682 AD) included 105 mei rong formulas in his classic texts, Bei Ji Qian JinYao Fang and Qian Jin Yi Fang, as well as acupuncture and moxibustion treatments for skin enhancement. Other classical texts also describe the relationship among diet, health, and appearance. Today skin disorders affect 10 million Americans. While modern pharmaceuticals sometimes provide quick symptomatic relief, they rarely deal with the causes and can increase toxicity. In this two-day class, Mr. Yuen will discuss classical Chinese medical approaches to the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of skin disorders for health and beauty.

Herbs and the Divergent Meridians
(Friday & Monday)
Some classical Chinese medical practitioners have alleged that post-Cultural Revolution Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has “herbalized” acupuncture, presenting formulas for points based upon herbal medical diagnosis and treatment. In this course, Jeffrey Yuen presents the opposite – an “acupuncturized” method of formulating herbs. In addition to the myriad traditions of Chinese herbal medicine, herbs can be used energetically to tap into the meridian systems. This course explores the energetic uses of herbs that resonate with the Divergent Meridians and strategies to access and treat the Divergent Meridians with Chinese herbs.
